Customer Service
Q: What is Teri's List?
A: Teri's List is a weekly publication of the lowest-priced products at your supermarket or drugstore matched with manufacturers' coupons and specials - advertised and unadvertised. Teri does all the hard work and research, and presents it to you in a straightforward format. Log in each week and print your list!
Q: Why do I need the List? Can't I do this on my own?
A: We publish UN-advertised sales as well as advertised sales. There are many more sales offered in your store than are mentioned in the sales ad, so if you rely only on the ads to help you make your shopping decisions, you will waste a LOT of money.
Our databases indicate whether we should wait, and whether the coupon will still be good once the "Rock Bottom Sale" cycles back through. We also track categorical sales trends, which affect these cycles.
Q: Won't I save more by shopping the warehouse stores?
A: Our research shows that the List consistently beats warehouse pricing.
Q: How does the Free Trial work?
A: You can try Teri's List for 28 days for FREE. At the end of your trial, you'll automatically become a full member. If you prefer to decline membership you must do so before automated billing begins. Be sure and cancel before the 28th day of your trial.
Q: What is the cost of Teri's List?
A: The cost for a 1 store membership is $10 every 8 weeks. That works out to about $1.25 per week. A 2 store membership is $15 every 8 weeks, a 3 store membership is $20 every 8 weeks and so on.
Q: How do I change my email address or password?
A:
1. Log in with your current email address and password.
2. Click "Sign In" on the homepage.
3. In the "Changes to My Membership" box, click the appropriate link.
The system will guide you through your desired changes.
Q: I received a notice that my card is expired. Now what?
A: If the credit or debit card that you have on file with us is expired, your membership can't be renewed. If you've received a new expiration date for the card that we have on file, you may reactivate your membership with the card number and the new expiration date.
Here's how:
1.Click "Sign In" on the homepage.
2.The system will guide you through reactivating your membership.
Q: How do I change my credit card info or billing address?
A:
1. Click "Sign in" on the homepage.
2. In the "Changes to My Membership" box, click on the appropriate link.
Q: I'm having trouble logging in.
A: Be sure you are entering your username and password correctly. You must have cookies enabled and you must have the current version of your particular browser.
Q: I keep getting last week's List!
A: Shopping days vary with different regions. Check your List header for your store's official shopping days and posting deadline. If it's a shopping day and you're still getting an outdated list, you may need to clear your cache, which is where your computer stores temporary internet files. When the cache becomes too full, your web browser can't bring up the new page.
A quick remedy may be to hit Ctrl + F5
If you continue to have problems loading the current week's list, contact customerservice@thegrocerygame.com
Q: My friend referred me. How can they get credit?
A:
1.Click "Sign In" from the Homepage
2.Scroll down to the "View My Referrals" link in the "Changes to My Membership" box.
3.In the "Who Referred Me" box, enter the email address of the person who referred you.
4.Click "SUBMIT"
The member's account must be current and active to receive credit; it cannot be a trial membership.
A "qualifying referral" is anyone who has not been credited to another member's account as a referral. Members cannot refer one another; it is a one-way street. For example, if Mary referred Jane, Jane may not refer Mary.
If the referrer's account is inactive, or if either party has not purchased an actual membership past the trial period, the referral will be pending. Once the member and the qualifying referral have active, full memberships (not a trial membership), the referral will be applied.
Until you have a total of three qualifying referrals, the referrals on your account will be noted as applied. Once three pending referrals are accumulated, 12 free weeks will be added to your current membership.
Once referral credit has been added to a member's account, those referrals will appear as credited.
There is no limit to how many free weeks you can earn. Tell all your friends about Teri's List!
Q: How do I cancel?
A: Cancellations are handled online.
1.Login to the Member's Center at TheGroceryGame.com with your username and password.
2.On the Member's Center page in the "Changes to My Membership" box, click the red "Modify My Membership or Cancel."

The List
Q: What is investing and need shopping?
A: Supermarkets put items on sale according to categorical sales trends, a marketing term that means only certain items are on sale each week. If you shop only for what you need, you'll save on a small percentage of items and overspend on the others. To win the game, you should invest during the categorical sales.
Q: What are the columns on Teri's LIST?
A:
"Original Price" column -- This column shows the original price. Although prices are standardized, the original price may vary by a few cents depending where you live.
"Sale Price" column -- This column is the sale price. Be sure you have and use your club card if your store has one. While sales are standardized, be aware that both advertised and UN-advertised sales are posted on The LIST. Occasionally, a few of the un-advertised sales may not be available in all areas. If you find that some items do not show a sales tag on the shelf, take the items to the check out anyway.
Before the checker rings them up, ask him to let you know if it is on sale. Quite often, you will find that the item is indeed on sale. The tag was just missing. If it turns out not to be on sale, just know it is probably one of those few un-advertised sales that didn't make it into all areas.
"Manufacturer Coupons" column -- Look down the "Manufacturer Coupon" column and pull these out of your file. Below the coupon value, we will include the date we received that coupon in the newspaper. For example, (S 9/12) means this coupon was found in the Smart Source section on Sept 12.
"Store Coupons" column -- These are usually found in the weekly flyer or a coupon book for a specific store.
Numbers in parentheses in coupon column -- The figure in parentheses is the price to subtract for "Buy one get one FREE" offers. This will be the amount of the FREE item. It will be helpful to write this number in the blank provided on the manufacturer coupon before you get to the register.
"Final Price" column -- This is the actual price after using all the coupons listed for each item.
Q: What do the different colors on the LIST mean?
A:
GREENs -- I receive these items FREE. I pay applicable tax.
BLUEs -- These are my best deals.
BLACKs -- These are luxury, convenience, or treats, but still are a good price.
Q: What are the CAPS on the LIST?
A: This indicates that the coupon for this particular item is found in the most recent Sunday paper.
Q: How does an item qualify to be black or blue?
A: I have extensive pricing databases which require 16-22 hours a week to maintain and update. Each sale item (advertised and UN-advertised) that also has a coupon is run through the database. The database then reveals whether or not that item is on a "Rock Bottom Sale".
Most sales go through cycles. If you see a coupon used on a black item, buy that item only if you need it. If you see a coupon used on a blue item, stock up! This is a "rock bottom" sale. Oftentimes, an item is not published even though there is a coupon AND it is on sale. My database even tells me how long it may be before a "Rock Bottom Sale" comes along.
If the coupon's expiration date permits, we wait for a "Rock Bottom Sale"... somewhat like a stock broker! This is only one example of what goes on behind the scenes each week to create The LIST! As you will find, your weekly savings are no coincidence. The LIST is strategically planned!
Q: If an item is black, should I save the coupon and wait until it is blue?
A: If it is black, buy it only if you need it now.
We use coupons on black items for the following scenarios:
1. The coupon is not of enough value to ever create a blue "rock-bottom" item.
2. We do not expect the item with a coupon to be on a "rock bottom" sale before the coupon expires.
3. The price is competitive, but the item may be slightly cheaper at a discount store. Since the item is competitively priced, we don't feel it's worth your time and gas to make a special trip elsewhere.
Note: Some areas repeat coupons. In these areas, the coupon will be listed first at a rock bottom price. This same item may appear at a later date.
Q: Will I find all the sales on the LIST at my store?
A: Not always. Some sale items may be limited to selected varieties. Some prices may vary. This publication is intended as a reference guide for what is likely to be available at local supermarkets and drugstores.
Q: What are categorical sales trends?
A: Supermarket sales run in categorical sales trends. This is one of the reasons that it takes approximately 12 weeks to get a well rounded investment. Most categories go on sale for 3 weeks at a time. These sales trends are also characterized by seasons.
For example, during your trial you may mostly invest in 2 categories such as paper goods and toiletries. You will buy more than you need of those items because they are BLUE or GREEN. By doing this, you are building your investment in those categories. Then your investment will carry you through to the next paper goods and toiletries sales trend.
Q: Why am I missing coupons?
A: The List is created for coupons found in the Sunday paper with the largest circulation in your area. If you get a paper other than the one with the largest circulation, you may be missing a few coupons each week, but you should still be able to use the List and have great savings!
If you've just started stockpiling, you are still building your coupon file for the first 12 weeks. You may not have all the coupons on the List. Some coupons have been in our files for weeks or even months.
Q: Where do I get the coupons?
A:
Sunday newspaper -- Most of your coupons will come from the Sunday newspaper. Be sure to subscribe to the newspaper with the largest circulation for your area for the most coupons. We recommend home delivery.
Mailed Ads -- Watch your mail for supermarket ads. Sometimes coupons appear in these ads that say "Manufacturer Coupon" on the top. Cut and file all manufacturers' coupons
Teri's Coupon Center -- Our website is a great place to find all kinds of coupons in one place. We offer printable coupons, coupons to download to your cell phone or store club card, coupons by mail, even online auctions. Be sure to check out Teri's Coupon Center regularly. These coupons are updated daily. You can link to Teri's Coupon Center from the Home Page.
Q: How do I organize my coupons?
We make it easy for you! Coupon dates are noted on the List so you only have to cut the coupons you need. Simply mark the date on the front of each coupon section and cut them when you need them.
You can also save by using only the coupons in the current Sunday newspaper. Items in capital letters come from the most recent Sunday newspaper.
Q: How do I print the List?
A: There are 2 ways to print the List. Use either (1) "Get This Week's List and Game Rules" or (2) "Quick Print List".
(1) Get This Week's List and Game Rules. Under "View", click "Teri's List" for desired store.
You may group List items by color - Above the List item column headings, right above "Final Price" you may click "Group List items by color". That will put all the Blacks first, then BLUEs, then GREENs.
Sorting The List - You may sort the List alphabetically by clicking on "Item Description", or you may sort numerically by clicking "Orig. Price", "Sale Price", "Coupon", "Final Price" or "Percentage." It will sort from least to greatest.
Hide or show selected items for printing - Check off the items you want or don't want. Then, directly under the last list item on the bottom right corner, click "hide selected items" or "show selected items".
Headers & Footers - If you do not want to print the Header & Footer information, click the minus (-) sign to hide them. Click the plus (+) sign to show them.
Print - Once you have the List the way you like it, use your browser to print the List (usually Ctrl P).
(2) Quick Print List. For complete instructions read Learn More about the QuickPrint List.
Under "The Best Way to Print your List!" choose your store and sort order. Check the "Show Header" and/or "Show Footer" box(es) if you wish to print them. Next, click "Print List". Click on items you DO NOT wish to print. This will gray-out those items. When ready to print, use your browser to print the List (usually Ctrl P).
